one week. 8th-15th january, 2012.

do and dare camp! yes, many memories were made. it was a good.great.excellent week. :D always to be remembered.

this is the second do and dare camp i went to, and my brother's third. the first year (last year) ireally did not want to go. i am not very outgoing, so it is hard for me to make new friends. thus, i have only a few; but i have nothing to complain about - my friends are good friends. they like me, i like them.

this year, i wasn't worried. i wanted to go, and i was really excited. the only thing with having friends that live far is that you never get to see them (ok, not never, but close to never). so when i see them, finally, i have to get used to them again. but, i love you, friends! thanks for making camp *perfect*!

my favorite part of the camp was probably the classes. i had gifts that bless (items of craft with uplifting Bible verses), stringendo (musical instruments!!!! yeah! :D), and the Creator's masterpiece (anatomy and physiology). there were lots of classes to choose from, but these stood out. and my favorite class was stringendo! i loved it. i had so much fun this year. i hope my fellow musicians had as much fun as i did.

dear 2012,

welcome into my life. in the past few weeks, i thought you would never get here. but now it seems like you came way too quick... i wasn't expecting you so early. but you're here and there's no way of sending you back. you will be here for a while (a year to be exact), and then you will slip away and you will be replaced by 2013. but that is only if the world doesn't come to an end before.

it was a little sad for me to farewell 2011, but that's ok because there's more happiness in it than sadness - you, 2012, are bringing us closer to the day Yahshua comes to take us home. i am looking forward to that, as i am sure many others are.

it was sad for me to say goodbye to the memories, not the year, i should say. but i will make many memories while you're around, i can be sure of that. in the four short days of this year, i have already made some memories. and, tomorrow to the 20th jan. i will be on holiday with my brother, so that will make lots of memories, too. we are going to the do and dare youth bible camp. i will make new friends and see oldish friends which makes for new memories which become old memories. so, you see, in the end i will be sad to say goodbye to you, too.

so i shall say - hello 2012!

i just had to post a photo of one of my l.o.v.a.b.l.e. chickens. my leghorn who doesn't have a name. poor thing!

we had a great, hot summer... this was my brother's birthday; we went to a place called crystal creek. it is really fun. we jumped in for hours. sooo fun, right? :D

and finally, this is a flower that proved to be a great subject for a photo. i think it is fun taking photos, isn't it photography-loving-people?

"Yes, definitely! Inside we grow and are prepared for what will come outside", answered the other twin.

"I believe that’s nonsense!" says the first. "There can't be life after birth – what is that supposed to look like?"

"I don't exactly know either. But there will certainly be much more light than in here. And maybe we will be walking about and eat with our mouths?"

"I've never heard such nonsense! Eating with the mouth? What a crazy idea. There is the umbilical cord that nourishes us. And how do you want to walk about? The umbilical cord is much too short."

Life = Experiences

Hello to all my readers! I guess it's time for my monthly post. :D

I am at my grandma's house at the moment, and I would like to share an experience I had on my journey here.

It took three flights to get here, although we aren't that far apart. I had to be carrying three "bags" at the same time: my camera bag, my suitcase (because we bought a ticket with only hand-luggage), and my pillow. It was a whole day traveling; I was a bit nervous I would get on the wrong flight or something. But, thankfully, Yahweh brought me safely here. Just after I got out of my second flight to wait a few minutes in the airport before boarding my third flight, I sat down and got comfortable. I put my pillow on the floor with my suitcase... And then I realized! My camera bag was missing! I quickly asked a kind lady that was sitting next to me if she could please look after my things while I went to get my bag. I ran back through the entrance to the plane, but an air hostess stopped me and said they had already closed the plane. I told her why I was going and she said she would get it for me. She found it for me and I thanked her and the lady that was looking after me things so much.

I was blessed I realized when I did; it would've been so bad if I had boarded my next flight without realizing.

Enjoy my story (even though it's poorly told) and always look after your things.

One of my subjects in school is Bible. I am now studying/learning about Proverbs. I came across an interesting fact and thought it would be nice to share it... It said that in the original (Hebrew) Bible, Proverbs 31 was an acrostic. Every new line would start with another letter of the Hebrew alphabet. i.n.t.e.r.e.s.t.i.n.g.

A few months ago, I posted a riddle. It seemed that a few of you liked it, so I thought I'd post another one. Now, this is not exactly a riddle, but it's fun, anyway. And it's not as easy as it looks! :D

Can you find 30 books of the Bible in this paragraph? Actually, there are 31 if you can find the variant of one Old Testament prophet's name.

There are 30 books of the Bible in this paragraph. Can you find them? This is a most remarkable puzzle. It was found by a gentleman in an airplane seat pocket, on a flight from Los Angeles to Honolulu, keeping him occupied for hours. He enjoyed it so much, he passed it on to some friends. One friend from Illinois worked on this while fishing from his john boat. Another friend studied it while playing his banjo. Elaine Taylor, a columnist friend, was so intrigued by it she mentioned it in her weekly newspaper column. Another friend judges the job of solving this puzzle so involving, she brews a cup of tea to help her nerves. There will be some names that are really easy to spot. That's a fact. Some people, however, will soon find themselves in a jam, especially since the book names are not necessarily capitalized. Truthfully, from answers we get, we are forced to admit it usually takes a minister or a scholar to see some of them at the worst. Research has shown that something in our genes is responsible for the difficulty we have in seeing the books in this paragraph. During a recent fund raising event, which featured this puzzle, the Alpha Delta Phi lemonade booth set a new record. The local paper, The Chronicle, surveyed over 200 patrons who reported that this puzzle was one of the most difficult they had ever seen. As Daniel Humana humbly puts it, "The books are all right here in plain view hidden from sight." Those able to find all of them will hear great lamentations from those who have to be shown. One revelation that may help is that books like Timothy and Samuel may occur without their numbers. Also, keep in mind, that punctuation and spaces in the middle are normal. A chipper attitude will help you compete really well against those who claim to know the answers. Surprise, Surprise!

Yesterday, my dad bought us some chicks. My little 3-year-old sister has been asking for ages, so he decided to go to the pet shop and get 3 little chicks. We were all so excited. :)

They are a bit hard to take photos of, since they move so quickly, but I’ll post the best ones.

The black one is mine – her name is Pepita.
The darker yellow-brown one is my little sister’s – her name is Daisy (my sister gave her that name).
And the lighter yellow one is my brother’s – her name is Mango, also given to her by my sister.

In the photos, you probably will not notice the difference between the two yellow chicks, but they do have a different colour…

Autumn's Touch...

First off, I want to start with the riddle. It looks like we’ve finished with it, but I was happy with the response I got from it. Almost everyone that sent an email got it right; well done to all of you! I will hopefully be posting another riddle shortly.

Finally, we in this half of the world, have made it into winter. Now, for some this is a little depressing, but it’s a law of life - and I am LOVING it! (Sorry to all those who don’t like winter.)

Where we live, in northern Australia, we have only two trees on our property that drop their leaves in autumn. (We have only two deciduous because we live in a subtropical climate. It doesn’t get as cold as other places, so, even though in theory we are in winter already, it seems as if we are still in autumn.) I LOVE those trees in autumn. They are SO nice! :)

So, I’m posting a few of the best photos I’ve taken of their leaves. Hope you like them as much as I do!

Hi all,

The writing is finally fixed! Now it comes out nice and black... :D

Last year on the 14th May, my dad found a "challenge" kind of thing for us. There was a riddle and I thought it was good. So, I'm going to post it. Here goes:

This riddle was written by a Californian lady in 1890 in response to a gentleman in Pennsylvania who said he would pay $1,000.00 to anyone who could write a puzzle he could not solve. He failed to solve this puzzle and paid the lady the $1,000.00, a great sum at that time. An 8 year old boy figured it out.

The answer is one word, five letters long, and appears only four times in it's various forms in the Authorized KJV Bible. Have fun!

And Adam gave to me my name,

Hello all,

Firstly, I'm happy to say that:

in the Capturing Beauty Photo Challenge!!!

I want to say thank you to all who were involved - the founder (Rosi), the participants, the judges(Rosi and Sonja), and anyone else who deserves credit. And, of course, the cameras. It was really fun...

I have decided to watermark my photos form now on. (Not such a big decision, but, anyway...)

I took these photos a few hours north of our home in north Queensland. It was in Atherton Tablelands. It's REALLY nice there... We saw of the most spectacular and breathtaking views there.I will post some photos in the next few weeks. :)

Also, in the last post the writing came out right, but the comments are still white... But, please, keep commenting! :D It's really nice to get comments as most of you would know.

Anyway, hope you enjoyed the photos!

Kuchen - a recipe

My grandma is Chilean and she makes this recipe. It's really nice, so I asked her for the recipe she uses and tried to make it. I took a few photos of it, which didn't come out very good, but I'll put them on, anyway.

This is a special dish; not something to be eaten every day.

Here is a bit of the history of Kuchen that I found on Wikipedia:

Kuchen (German pronunciation: [ˈkuːxən]), the German word for cake, is used in other languages as the name for several different types of sweet desserts, pastries, and gateaux. The term itself may cover as many distinct desserts as its English counterpart "cake."

Kuchen desserts are presumably handed down from people of German heritage and as such are often popular in many areas of German settlement in the United States, particularly North Dakota, South Dakota, Indiana, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. Kuchen was introduced into the Chilean cuisine when German immigrants settled southern Chile in the 1850s. Kuchens in Chile usually have fruits, such as apples, strawberries or murtas. Nontraditional Chilean kuchen with walnuts are sometimes offered. Now kuchens are found in many Chilean bakeries and in many of the larger "hipermercados" which is the local name for large grocery store. In Brazil, it is called "cuca" or less common "cuque" and it is found in areas of German settlement, like Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná and Santa Catarina states.

This is the recipe my grandma gave me:

Base ingredients:
3 cups self-raising flour
Grated skin of 1 lemon
2 eggs
100 grams butter - melted
3/4 cup caster sugar

Method:

Mix all ingredients well. Spread evenly on bottom and sides of an oven dish; press to make firm.

Put into oven until cooked or until knife comes out clean. Take out of oven.

Filling:

1 can condensed milk

2 lemons - juiced

Method:

Mix condensed milk and lemon juice. Pour over base and spread evenly. Put into oven for 5 minutes or until it is a bit harder. Take out of oven.

Decorate with fruits such as kiwis, peaches, cherries, raspberries, etc. Or, if you like, just have it without fruit.

About a Book and a Challenge

Well, since I haven't written for a week, I thought I'd post of a book that I just read (I don't know how I got to that conclusion, but I just felt like it).

I have recently joined a reading challenge (http://blog.beautifulsong.com/2010/12/reading-challenge-2011/), and am planning to read heaps of books this year...

The book that I read is (lent from my friend) called Nellie the Brave, written by Veda Boyd Jones.

It is a story about "The Cherokee Trail of Tears". It is one of a collectible series of 24 titles called Sisters In Time (all of different stories).

Although it is fictitious, it is based on a real story. Written to suit 8 - 12 year olds, it's very interesting and, like Vera's Journey, is very well written.

Nellie is the main character in this story; it shows her point of view of when the Cherokee were forced out of their land. It describes the sicknesses and tells what life was like for the Cherokee; also what it meant for them to be leaving the land of their forefathers - how hurt, sad, and angry they were with the whites.

Nellie and her family were Christians, so it shows the difference between their thoughts and feelings, and the thoughts and feelings of the average Cherokee.

So, I really enjoyed Nellie the Brave, and if you ever read it, I hope you will, too.

Explore this website(http://www.christianbook.com), they have some REALLY GOOD stuff there. Even some of their DVDs are good. We bought heaps of DVDs and books from them...

Our Visitor

On Sunday night I was sitting on my desk ,thinking, when I saw this triangular shape moving down my ruler. When I "woke up" from my daydream I saw it was a visitor - not a welcome one! - a snake... :)

I went and called my brother, who told my dad, who came to get it.

We put it in a jar and took a few photos. Then we went outside and let it go. It was small, though; a python.

(When things like this happen on a Sabbath, we call it a Sabbath blessing... :) hahaha)

I love this photo of these flowers; the focus and colour are really nice. They grow everywhere here...

The focus on this one is really good, too. I like taking photos of the subject close-up.

Vera's Journey - A Book

Vera's Journey is the biography of Vera (Early) Heatwole, written by Judy Yoder.

It begins with how her parents met, goes through Vera's more-than-century-long life, and tells of her struggles and triumphs. It describes what life was like many years ago, how Vera came to know Elohim and to love Him with all her heart, and how she trusted and leaned on Him through her hardest trial - deafness.

Most of the book is written in conversational form, which makes it really interesting, easy to read, and enjoyable. When you read a book like this, you just feel like you're part of the story; as if you were there.

This is one of my favourite books. It's 707 pages long, but it doesn't seem like half that amount.

I would rate it 10 out of 10... :D Before I read it, I thought I would never finish it, but it was finished before I knew it.

I would recommend Vera's Journey to people who love to read, and who love Yahweh.

This first one is of a Birds of Paradise flower. It came out really nice and colourful.

We all know that one way Yahweh shows us His love is through His creation - nature.

Isn't it nice when you find a leaf or some other object of creation that is shaped like a love heart? Well, I like it. : )

A stack of citronella candles... I took this one. Came out pretty good, I thought. ;)

Our neighbour's shed fell down (but it's standing again). :( :)

These two frogs came out pretty good, too.

Trees and branches (much bigger than this one)fell off trees (and I guess trees fell). Little twigs and branches just got bloooooooown away...
